The path for healing the United States will not be easy or comfortable yet it is urgent. It will take difficult and courageous conversations, thoughtful analysis and deliberate action. These acts must start with each and every one of us, today.
American history explains the conditions we see today from police brutality to the racial wealth gap. Uncomfortable connections can be drawn between Carolyn Bryant Donham and Amy Cooper; Will Brown (Omaha, 1919) and George Floyd; slave patrols and modern police. The persistent presence of white supremacy throughout history connects these events. The full impact to African Americans is incalculable but has affected wealth, housing, health, education, and freedom itself. We must fully confront our history if we are to Make America Whole.
